This is a loaded question for me. Because over the past four years, I have owned over 80 different computers. Everything ranging from tablets, to notebooks, UMPCs, etc… But the reasoning I kept giving was, I was just trying to see if each one was a fit for me.
At least that is what I was telling myself.
In my life, I never smoked, never did drugs, nor drink. BUT, I was addicted to something. I was addicted to…
New computers.
It’s true, I REALLY was addicted. The thrill of getting a new device was my high that gave me a rush, and to this day I still have a hard time restraining myself from not buying the newest and coolest device out there. Last example, the iPhone.
This addiction has been going on for 4 years. And at one point it was so bad, I must of had 5 tablets in at the same time, and my wife started to get concerned. I knew I was not keeping 4 of them, but I could see why she was getting concerned. Having 5 different computers at the same time is a lot isn’t?
And that’s my question. How much is too much? I’m not going to go into details, but I been reading a few blogs, of tech people owning, 2 tablets, 5 phones, a desktop, Macbook, 3 iPhones and a OQO Model 2, all at the same time. Over $10,000 of tech toys. They claim they need all of this technology for their work and play. Hey, it’s their money, and they can do want ever they want, but maybe they have an addiction like I did. Maybe the problem is a lot worst then what it really is.
This is not meant to be a funny post, with the final answer of ‘Hey, were all tech geeks’. True. But wanting the latest gadget, and buying the latest gadgets are two different things.
How many computers are enough? Do we really need to have a 5 different $2000 computer for every occasion that we need? Isn’t one enough in some cases? Is five enough? Or too much?
This may be a bigger problem then we know it.
